Okada Riders to get 50,000 naira from Akwa Ibom State Government

I was really impressed today when i saw this article in the Nigerian Vanguard newspapers, that the government of Akwa-Ibom state has set up a Loan scheme to empower Okada riders. Due to the ban on the use of Okada in the state capital. In addition, the state government is also buying the motor bikes at a flat rate of 50,000 naira from the Okada riders. This is governance at work in Akwa Ibom State. Thumbs up for Godswill Akpabio the governor of the state.

17 arrests in Spain in voodoo prostitution swoop

Seventeen people have been arrested across the country in connection with a prostitution and illegal immigration network which threatened women with voodoo to force them to work as prostitutes.

Arrests took place in Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Tarragona, Algeciras and Las Palmas and it’s undertood that more suspects may yet be taken into custody.

The women were brought over to Spain from countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and then put to work in the streets. Some ran up debts to the Nigerian-led gang of as much as 50,000 €, from the high rent they were charged for the rooms where they lived and the fines they were made to pay if they failed to hand over their takings before the deadline imposed by the group.

The Interior Ministry said in a press release on Thursday that the women also suffered constant beatings.

It’s understood that the network used forged documents to obtain Spanish residency for their workforce.

They had another branch to the business, which hacked credit card numbers from banks in the United States, using the information to make online purchases which were later sold on to countrymen for a profit.

The arrests followed evidence from a protected witness, who is one of the women who were exploited by the gang.

I AM TAKING A STAND TO END SLAVERY

I am taking a stand to end slavery, what about you? It is time for us as a people to take a stand to end slavery. Lets not fold our hands and wait for others to act, we have to act too, as the war against modern day slavery can only be won through concerted efforts.

Say No to Slavery

It is time to say no to slavery and join the non-violent movement(Exodus) to restore the dignity and humanity of millions of Nigerian girls who are forced into prostitution all over the world. A dollar/euro paid to buy a voiceless Nigerian girl is a money paid to denigrate our common humanity.
